Prof. Chen gives the courses as General Introduction to Civil Engineering, Principle of Steel Structures, Design of Light-weight Steel Structures, Frontier in Research of Structural Engineering for both undergraduate students and graduated students. He taught the courses of Seismic Design of Building Structures, and Theory of Structural Stability several years ago. |
His main research interesting is the stability, seismic behavior of steel structure and steel-concrete composite structures, especially for thin-walled structures, tubular steel structures and structural connections. He has continued to improve testing devices and systems for realization of complex structural experiments in laboratory. He published about 150 Journal papers with his colleague and/or students. |
Since 1995, he has devoted much to the national and regional landmark buildings adopting steel structures, to solve the key technical problems. As chief designer he completed more than 20 steel structural designs, including the industrial building, residential building and stadiums. He is also the member or main editor for around 10 national, regional or industrial design codes. |
